Transparency is...

Silence. There´s only silence after their words. No chair is being moved, nobody dares to move anything, nothing, just silence. You can smell the shock in the air, see the petrified faces, staring at the wise man and the young girl at his side. A slight whisper goes through the room: Is it possible that this girl will lead their company to its aim? And will she be the one who leads the Circle to completion?

This morning at the Dream Friday presentation Maeley announced that Mae Holland would be the first Circler to go fully transparent. The 24-year-old women had been invited as a special guest today to join an interview with Eamon Bailey. After talking about the disadvantages of too much secrets and praising publicity and honesty, Mae´s meaningful transparency was proclaimed. From now, she is wearing a SeeChange camera as a necklace - Through a feed watchers can follow her everywhere, at any time, to any place. She won´t be shrouded in mysteries anymore...

Secrets are lies

For you, is she still a mystery? Mae Holland was born 24 years ago in a small village in California. After having finished her psychology degree at Carleton College, she moved to an even smaller town where she worked for a technology company for one year. A few months ago she applied for a job at the Circle where she soon became a little celebrity: Since she began working in the Customer Experience department (CE) we got to see her skills in communicating and helping people of any age. Maybe you also know her as Francis Garaventa´s ex-girlfriend helping at presenting the Luv Luv program. And her PartiRank has always been in the T2K since last month (now it is in the Top 10, always) You still don´t remember her name? Then click here for further details about Mae Holland.

Sharing is caring

With admirable honesty and innocence Mae is answering all of Bailey´s questions. Has she stolen a kayak last night? Yes, she has. Why? Because she thought no one would see? This is the part where it gets really interesting and enlightening. The two on the stage are talking about the effects SeeChange cameras can have on the behavior of the watched ones.

"When you´re alone, unwatched, unaccountable, what happens?", the wise man asks.

"I lie", Mae answers. Later she states that secrets are lies.

Although she seems to be so young, and therefore unexperienced, Mae shows herself as cleverer and wiser than a lot of us may ever be. She explains that you can do so much good for other people, for disabled and old, if you just share your experiences with them. Showing them the world through your pictures, videos and words. It only needs a few little clicks on your phone or tablet and you brought joy to hundreds, maybe thousands.

And last but not least Maeley came to their last point. "We all have a right to know everything we can." Mae turns to the audience, talking passionately with a bright sparkle in her eyes. "So what happens if I deprive anyone or everyone of something I know? Aren´t I stealing from my fellow humans?"

Privacy is theft

From now, she won´t steal from her fellow humans anymore. Because from now she is transparent.

We are sure the cooperation between these two, Mae and Bailey, will lead us to great success. And maybe to a fourth wise man. We mean, woman.

So what is the meaning of transparency? It is another new, yet most significant step forward. It is closest to our ideal: Transparency is the best thing we could imagine, the best for our society.

How does transparency impact our daily lives? It brings us a little bit closer to democracy, honesty, to a world of peace and justice.
