The CIRCLE by Dave Eggers

In the book  “the CIRCLE” by Dave Eggers, published in 2013, the protagonist Mae Holland was hired by the Circle, a powerful IT-company founded by the three “wise men”, where she starts in the bottom, the “Customer Experience”, and climbs her way to the top.

After studying psychology Mae Holland gets the chance to work for the circle because her friend Annie Allerton, whom she met in college and also happens to be one of the “40 gang” (which are the most influential employees of the circle), helped her getting the employment. Mae´s parents are really grateful that Annie helped their daughter to get a job at the circle. The father of Mae suffers on MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and has to deal with health insurance until Mae gets him and her mother on the Circle's medical plan. 

Mae enjoys working for the Circle and doing activities provided by the campus. She encounters a meeting with Kalden who disappears and cannot be found in the circles documents.  

Furthermore she seems first concerned about her privacy and doesn’t like to be publicly exposed. But after her boss sends her to two enthusiastic circle members, Denise and Josiah, who have a talk with her about sharing and zinging her experinces and rising in the PartiRank (which shows who is the most active circle member), Mae intends to be in the top 3000.
